Tips on how to stop smoking
Some useful hints & tips to quit smoking for good
Know why you want to stop
You will need powerful reasons why you want to stop smoking. Apart from your health or affecting your family from second-hand smoke, or financial, choose a strong reason.
Cold Turkey is not the answer
As a smoker your brain depends on nicotine which is a highly addictive, so stopping without the help of NRT is not the answer. Without the therapy most smokers fail to give up.
Try NRT
Nicotine withdrawal symptoms are highly unpleasant. NRT can reduce these feelings considerably. Patches, inhalators, lozenges and gun double your chances of stopping successfully. Don't use NRT products whilst still smoking.
Avoid certain triggers
Avoid activities which may urge you to smoke. Alcohol is a very common trigger and so is coffee/tea. Most smokers find it hard not to smoke after a meal, you must try and do something else, for example chewing gum, eating some fruit.
Clear out
Do get rid of all lighters & ashtrays and clean the furnishings in your house to remove all smells that reminds you of smoking.
Exercise
Physical activities can ease some of your withdrawal symptoms. Whenever you think you want a cigarette, try to do some exercise or go for a long walk.
Eat vegetables and fruit
Focus on eating more vegetables and fruit which will fight your craving whilst providing good nutrition.
Reward yourself
Keep reminding yourself of the money you will save as a result of not buying cigarettes. Spend it on something that's enjoyable.
